It’s a classic tale of Goliath vs… Goliath! These are the two biggest cell phone carriers in the US, and arguably the best. They’re both higher priced than T-Mobile or Mint but the features, family plans and unlimited speeds might bring you over to AT&T or Verizon these days. Here’s our take on how to decide which is better for you– Verizon or AT&T:
Plans & Pricing WINNER: AT&T for Slightly Cheaper Unlimited Plans
Coverage & Reliability WINNER: Verizon Wireless
Data & Other Features WINNER: ATT for Faster Data, Verizon for 5G Coverage
OVERALL WINNER: Too Close to Call (eyeroll)

AT&T vs. Verizon: Plans & Pricing
Both AT&T and Verizon Wireless have great options for big family plans and true, fast, reliable unlimited plans. At the end of the day you’re probably saving a few bucks on AT&T with similar features like 5G and Unlimited in most major cities in America.
Do you want the Disney+ deal for the family that comes with Verizon? Or are you looking for HBOMax as a free addon? These are probably going to be the ultimate separators for you when deciding between these two. We give AT&T the slight edge here because, all things being subjectively equal such as the HBO vs Disney perk, AT&T is slightly cheaper for what you get. We’ll talk about coverage next, where Verizon has an edge.
AT&T vs. Verizon: Coverage
Verizon is often referred to as the Nation’s largest, most reliable network. That’s because their infrastructure is more robust than most and they’re leading the way on 5G as well. They’re just a massive company with a ton of tentacles throughout the US. An old-school telecom giant, if you will.
AT&T is no slouch in coverage and they would argue that their network is definitely an old school telecom giant relic (in a good way). There might be certain areas where AT&T outperforms Verizon so your mileage may vary on this but we give the slight edge to Verizon as the generally accepted “best network” in the US of A.

If you squint you might be able to see a difference in these maps. Both look almost universal to us and in practice, coverage is a strong suit for both AT&T and Verizon so best not to make your final decision hang on this.
AT&T vs. Verizon: Data & Other Features
AT&T takes the crown as the self-described fastest network in the nation. We’ll give them that and, since other publications seem to agree with this consensus, we’ll hand them the crown for now (though they’re not as fast as T-Mobile!)
For 5G coverage, Verizon is leading the way with deployment of new towers across the nation. If 5G becomes ubiquitous and standardized in the coming decades, Verizon will have a very strong head start on owning that infrastructure. At last count, Verizon says their 5G network covers 200M Americans.
AT&T vs. Verizon: Which is Better for You?
This race is one of those lame “too close to call” situations where the differences are so minute that you’ll probably end up going with the one who gives you the best deal. Details of such deals from both AT&T and Verizon change often so check below for all the latest.
